Search for an AirTag dog holder and you'll find dozens of similar-looking silicone cases at very different prices. Here's what actually separates them, because it isn't visible in a product photo.
What to check before buying any AirTag dog holder
- A stated water rating, not just "water-resistant" — ours is rated to 1m for 30 minutes, which matters if your dog actually swims. "Water-resistant" on a listing often means splash-proof only.
- The seal around the AirTag — gaps let grit and salt in over time.
- Grip on the collar — a dog running, swimming and shaking puts real stress on a holder. A holder that slides around is how owners lose the AirTag.
- Collar fit range — ours fits flat collars 15–25mm wide; some listings give a single "one size" that may not sit securely on your collar.
Why we chose a holder for Australian conditions
Pawfetchers started from a real problem — dogs slipping leads and heading into the water near Freshwater on Sydney's Northern Beaches, and our own groodle Indie going missing at Freshwater Beach. A holder that only survives light rain wasn't good enough for that, so we chose a sealed silicone holder rated for swimming, not just walks around the block.

What does the 1m/30min water rating mean?
The holder is rated to withstand submersion to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes — covering swimming, not just splashes or rain. It isn't designed for diving or long periods underwater.
Will a cheaper holder work fine for a dog that doesn't swim?
Possibly, but even non-swimming dogs get rained on, roll in wet grass, or drink from puddles near the collar, so a proper seal still matters.
How do I know my dog's collar width before ordering?
Measure the flat width of the collar itself (not the neck). Our holder fits 15–25mm.
