How to Fit an AirTag Holder to a Dog Collar So It Never Falls Off
Share
Quick answer: put the AirTag in the holder and close the seal fully, slide the holder onto a flat collar 15–25mm wide so it sits flat (not twisted), position it on the back or side of the neck, then give it a firm tug test. Check the seal is closed before every swim and re-check the fit after the first few walks. The Pawfetchers holder fits in about 60 seconds with no tools.
Step-by-step: fitting a Pawfetchers AirTag holder
- Take the collar off your dog and lay it flat. It's much easier than fitting it on a wriggling dog.
- Check the collar width. The holder grips flat collars 15–25mm wide (nylon, leather, fabric). Narrower collars won't hold it firmly; wider ones won't fit.
- Insert the AirTag into the holder.
- Close the seal fully. Run your fingers around it to make sure it's closed all the way, especially if your dog swims.
- Slide the holder onto the collar so it sits flat against the strap, not twisted.
- Position it where it will sit on the back or side of your dog's neck, not under the chin where it can press when your dog lies down or eats.
- Put the collar back on and check you can fit two fingers underneath.
- Tug test: give the holder a firm tug in a few directions. It shouldn't slide around easily.
The most common fitting mistakes
Collar too narrow or too wide. This is the main reason a holder moves around. Measure the collar across the strap before buying any holder.
Seal not fully closed. Water gets in through a partly open seal. Check it before beach trips and swims.
Holder twisted on the collar. A twisted holder rubs and is more likely to shift. Make sure it lies flat.
Loose collar. If the collar itself is loose, your dog can back out of it, holder and all. Use the two-finger rule. Wet fur makes collars looser, so re-check after swims. See why dogs slip their collars at the beach.
Not re-checking. Give it a quick look after the first few walks, and before every beach day.
The five-second check before every walk

After the beach
Rinse the holder in fresh water and let it dry. Our care guide covers cleaning and battery changes.
